Shipping containers Gold Coast

Our yard is at Cornubia, which is effectively the top of the Gold Coast run, so the drive south is short and predictable and a truck can be on your street early in the day rather than late. That is the easy half. The other half is that the Coast hides some of the hardest suburban placements in the country behind some of its best addresses, and a waterfront lot with a metre and a half of side access is a crane job whether or not anybody has used the word yet.

The practical read on this town.

Where they turn up around here

Around Gold Coast we deliver containers for site stores for the constant knockdown-rebuild work from Mermaid Beach up through Main Beach to Paradise Point, dry lock-up for surf clubs, dive shops and jet ski operators between seasons, parts and consumables storage across the industrial land at Yatala, Stapylton, Molendinar and Burleigh Heads, set and lighting storage for the production work around Oxenford, fit-out gear on the marine blocks at Coomera, and machinery, feed and tack on the hinterland acreage through Currumbin Valley, Tallebudgera and Mudgeeraba.

What the delivery actually involves

Treat the Coast as three separate delivery problems. The first is the flat country in the north, from Ormeau and Pimpama through Yatala, Stapylton and Coomera. That is twenty-odd minutes from the yard, most of it is hardstand and wide entries, and a rigid truck can line up straight before the bed goes up. Those jobs get booked and done. The second is the waterfront stock, and it is the reason we ask so many questions before quoting. On the canal lots at Sorrento, Mermaid Waters, Clear Island Waters, Runaway Bay and out through Hope Island, the useful width of the block is at the water and the street end is pinched, the house occupies the full frontage, and the side gate is usually decorative. Those are lifts, not tilt drops. Whether a lift happens is decided by the street rather than by the container: the horizontal distance the boom has to cover, the height of everything in the flight path, whether there is a service line strung across your frontage, and whether the road is wide enough to set outriggers without closing it to traffic. Third is the ground. Between Coombabah and Kirra you are on beach sand sitting over a shallow water table, and dry sand carries almost no load. A loaded truck will find the bottom of a nature strip that looked as firm as a car park. Behind the beach, canal fill that went in forty years ago has consolidated and generally behaves; the freshly cut blocks up in the northern estates have not and do not. The hinterland is a vehicle question again. The climbs to Tamborine, Springbrook and up Currumbin Valley are narrow, hard against the bank in sections, low in the canopy and short on turning room. A 20ft goes up there without much drama. A 40ft gets talked through before anybody books a truck.

Grade moves the price more than size does, and it is what decides whether a unit is sold watertight — the full rundown is on the grades page.

The range

Containers we deliver to Gold Coast

Priced with delivery to your address - one call, one number.

10ft Shipping Containers

Side access is pinched, the setback leaves nothing to manoeuvre in, or all that is needed is a lockable spot for the mower, an air compressor and a wall of hand tools.

20ft Shipping Containers

There is about seven metres of straight, reasonably level ground for it to sit on, and you would rather not discover in half a year that the bigger box was the answer.

40ft Shipping Containers

You have the space, the approach is genuinely open, and the aim is the largest amount of storage per dollar spent that anybody sells.

Gold Coast

Cornubia to the Coast is a short run

Most people selling containers into the Gold Coast are carting them from a depot on the far side of Brisbane, which puts the truck on the Gateway and through the city before it even reaches the M1. Our yard is at Cornubia, off the M1 south of Brisbane, so a Coast delivery is a short leg on a road the driver runs constantly. The practical benefits are the boring ones that matter on the day: a truck that arrives when we said it would, a booking that can be shuffled by a day without wrecking anybody's week, and a second trip that is an inconvenience rather than a disaster if a driveway turns out to be softer than it looked.

It also means coming to look at the container is realistic instead of theoretical. Cornubia is thirty to forty minutes up the motorway from most of the Coast, the units stand on hardstand, and you can open the doors, walk the floor, check the seals and the corner posts and pick the one you want rather than accepting whatever turns up. The yard is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5pm and Saturday morning 8am to 12pm. Ring 1300 467 776 first so the unit you want to look at is standing somewhere you can get around it. If the drive does not suit, we can photograph the exact unit on request and send the images through before delivery.

On the ground

Getting it over the roof on a waterfront lot

A crane delivery is ordinary work on the Gold Coast, but it needs more detail up front than backing a tilt-tray down a driveway. The three numbers that matter are reach, height and standing room. Reach is the horizontal distance from where the truck can legally park to where the container has to land, and a crane loses capacity quickly as the boom goes out, so a box travelling twenty-five metres over a two-storey house is a substantially larger machine than the same box going ten metres over a side fence. Height is everything in the flight path: roofline, palms, a pergola, a pool enclosure, the neighbour's poinciana. Standing room is the street itself, because the outriggers need firm ground and a footprint wider than the truck.

None of that is hard to establish, and you can do most of it with a phone in five minutes. Stand at the front gate and photograph the house. Turn around and photograph the street, taking in the power and comms lines across the frontage. Then walk to the back and photograph the spot from the yard looking toward the road. Those three images tell us more than a page of description, they let us price the job properly the first time instead of twice, and they mean the machine that turns up is the one the job actually needs. Where a lift genuinely will not work, we would much rather tell you that at quote stage than have a truck sitting in your cul-de-sac with nowhere to go.

Worth knowing

Sand, salt and what sits under the corners

A container carries its entire weight through the four corner castings, and each casting concentrates that load onto a footprint about the size of a dinner plate. On coastal sand or thin turf over sand that load goes down, unevenly, and it does not come back up. The frame twists a little, the door end stops sitting square, and what was a one-hand door becomes a two-person job inside a season. An hour's work and a few lengths of hardwood or a set of concrete pads beneath the castings, levelled along the sides and across the diagonals, prevents the lot of it. That is done as part of the delivery wherever the site permits, so say at quote stage whether you are on sand, on fill or on a slab and the right materials travel with the container.

Getting the floor up off the ground matters more here than inland because the water table is shallow along the whole strip. A container sitting hard against damp sand never dries out underneath, and on a long-term store that is where the trouble begins, not on the roof. A hundred millimetres of clear air under it, grass kept down around the bottom rail and leaf litter swept off the roof a couple of times a year is the entire maintenance program. Salt air on its own does very little to a box that spent its working life crossing oceans. Wet leaves held against a roof panel and long kikuyu trapping moisture against the steel do plenty. For a unit that will live outdoors permanently in a coastal position, ask for cargo-worthy, which is inspected wind and watertight in the yard before dispatch. The grades page lays out what separates one grade from another so the choice is made with your eyes open.

What delivery to Gold Coast costs

Delivery is quoted with the container. It moves with the distance, the truck the site needs and how hard the last thirty metres are, so we price it per job rather than publish a figure that would be wrong for half the addresses here.

Tell us the job rather than the product. What goes in, where it sits and how the truck gets there decides the rest.

We also deliver to Southport, Robina, Coomera, Burleigh Heads, Tamborine Mountain and the surrounding district. If your town is not on the list, ring — it almost certainly still works.

Common questions

Buying a container in Gold Coast

Can you lift a container into a back yard on a canal block at Mermaid Waters or Hope Island?

Yes, and on most waterfront lots there is no other way in, since the house occupies the full width of the block. The machine sets up on the roadway, takes the container up over the roof and lowers it exactly where you want it standing. It comes down to reach, clearance, road width for the outriggers and whatever wires cross your frontage. Photograph the house from your gateway, the wires above it, and the yard looking back toward the road, and you will generally have an answer that same day.

Will a truck get up to Tamborine Mountain or Springbrook?

A 20ft on a tilt-tray goes up all of those roads regularly. A 40ft is a different conversation. The climbs are narrow, tightly cambered, hard against the rock in places, and there is mature canopy hanging low over the carriageway on the Currumbin Valley and Numinbah runs. Long vehicles also need somewhere real to turn at the top, which a lot of hinterland driveways do not have. Where the length genuinely matters, two 20ft placed end to end usually gets you more usable space and a far simpler delivery. Send the address and a photo from your gate looking back at the road.

Will a container sink into the sand on a Gold Coast block?

Placed directly onto sand or thin turf it will, because the entire weight of the unit lands on four small footprints. Pads or hardwood sleepers beneath the corner castings, levelled along the sides and diagonals, take care of that permanently and hold the underside clear of a shallow water table. Mention the ground when you enquire and the materials come up on the truck with the container, so it is set up properly on the day instead of becoming a job for your weekend.

Can I look at the container before it is delivered to the Gold Coast?

Yes. The yard is at 51-55 Bromley Street, Cornubia, roughly thirty to forty minutes up the M1 from most Coast addresses, and the units sit on hardstand where the doors can be swung open and the floor and corner posts inspected properly. Ring first so the unit is accessible and somebody is free to take you through it. If the trip is not practical, we will photograph the exact unit on request and send it through before delivery, covering the door end, the corners, the roof and the floor inside.
