10ft Shipping Containers
Side access is pinched, the setback leaves nothing to manoeuvre in, or all that is needed is a lockable spot for the mower, an air compressor and a wall of hand tools.
Side Opening
A container with doors running the full length of one side on top of the usual pair at the end. Nothing ends up buried behind anything else, every pallet position is reachable from outside, and a forklift can pull any one of them without shifting the rest.
The short version
Access is the only reason to pay the difference. In an ordinary container whatever you want is behind whatever went in first, and in practice that means dragging half the load onto the ground to reach it. A side opener does away with that completely. For a workshop, a parts store, a hire yard or anywhere stock cycles quickly, it changes the way the container gets used every day of the week.
Siting works differently and this is where people come unstuck. The leaves swing outwards across the full length, so allow about three metres of clear, flat standing along that side, and settle which way the container faces before the truck arrives. Spinning one around afterwards is another delivery. Decide which side the doors face, say so when you order, and the driver will land it that way round.
They are heavier and structurally more complicated than a plain box, so they cost more and there are simply fewer of them in circulation. Used examples do exist but they are uncommon — if one is wanted, say so early and we will keep an eye out rather than wait for one to appear.
Grade matters more than anything else in a container quote. Grade is what decides whether the box keeps water out. Anything sold as cargo-worthy is inspected wind and watertight before release, and new single-trip units — one loaded voyage, unmarked paint, rubbers that have barely weathered — are sealed as well. As-is is the cheap end and carries no watertight claim at all: expect a previous repair, a floor section that has gone soft, or a gasket that no longer pulls up hard against the frame. We list those faults and photograph them on request, before delivery, so nothing turns up as a surprise when the truck does. If what goes inside has to stay dry, start at cargo-worthy.

Lengths
Side access is pinched, the setback leaves nothing to manoeuvre in, or all that is needed is a lockable spot for the mower, an air compressor and a wall of hand tools.
There is about seven metres of straight, reasonably level ground for it to sit on, and you would rather not discover in half a year that the bigger box was the answer.
You have the space, the approach is genuinely open, and the aim is the largest amount of storage per dollar spent that anybody sells.
Other configurations
The plain box, and the right call about eight times out of ten.
Identical footprint to a standard container with another foot of height on top — 2.
Reefers — insulated panels all round, a stainless or aluminium interior, a T-bar deck for airflow, and an integral refrigeration unit built into one end.
Storage built from the outset for flammable liquids and other dangerous goods — a bunded floor, ventilation high and low, internal shelving, and the compliance plate a workplace inspector will want to read.
Questions

Most commonly 20ft and 40ft, with some configurations available as a 10ft as well. Availability shifts week to week, particularly on used stock, so the question worth asking is not what a list says but what is physically standing in the nearest yard the day you ring. Ask, and you will be told exactly that.
Grade settles that, not configuration. Cargo-worthy stock is inspected wind and watertight before it is released, and new single-trip units are sealed as well. As-is carries no watertight claim at all — it is priced on its faults, and those faults get described plainly and photographed on request rather than left to turn up with the truck. If whatever goes inside has to stay dry, start at cargo-worthy and do not drop below it.
It depends which one is being asked about. A high cube sits only a little above the standard version of the same length. Side opening, refrigerated and dangerous goods units are different containers rather than modified ones — heavier, more complicated, and made in far smaller numbers — so they are priced accordingly. Describe what the container has to do and the realistic options get costed next to each other instead of the dearest one being pushed at you.
Yes, across most of the range and into every state we deliver to. Hire makes sense where the container has an end date on it and buying makes sense where it does not, and the crossover between the two arrives sooner than people expect it to. Give us the period and the delivery postcode and it gets priced both ways in the one reply.
