Shipping containers Sunshine Coast

Two things decide a Sunshine Coast delivery and neither of them is the container: altitude and ground. Below the escarpment you are on sand over a shallow water table, threaded with canal estates and new subdivisions drawn for cars rather than trucks. Above it, the roads to Maleny, Montville and Mapleton set a hard limit on what can physically arrive. Sort out which of those you are dealing with before you order and a Coast delivery is a non-event. Leave it and you find out on the morning.

Here is the honest version of buying a container here.

Where they end up in this district

Around Sunshine Coast we deliver containers for storage for the strawberry, ginger and macadamia growers around Chevallum, Palmview and Yandina, feed, tack and machinery on the hinterland acreage through Eumundi, Cooroy, Doonan and Belli Park, site stores on the estate builds at Aura, Baringa, Nirimba and Palmview, board, kayak and dive gear where the garage stopped coping years ago, stock for market and event traders working the Eumundi and coastal weekend circuit, and parts and materials storage for trades on the industrial land at Kunda Park, Warana and Coolum.

What the driver needs from the site

Start above the escarpment, because that is where the hard limits sit. The Blackall Range climbs out of Landsborough, Palmwoods and Nambour are narrow, awkwardly cambered and full of bends a long rigid truck cannot straighten out. Some pitches have rock on one shoulder and fresh air on the other, several carry length and weight restrictions, and old fig and eucalypt canopy hangs across the carriageway at about four metres. A tilt-tray with a 20ft on the back handles all of that. A 40ft is not a given and on one or two of those roads the answer is simply no. Up top, ordinary rural constraints stack on as well: unsealed driveways with a pronounced crown, table drains waiting either side, gates hung off square to the road, and a turnaround at the house that needs to be genuinely truck-sized rather than hopeful. The red volcanic soil and decomposed granite up there bind beautifully in the dry and go slippery within the hour once rain arrives, and the wet lingers longer at altitude than it does at the beach. Below the escarpment it is sand and water. Golden Beach, Pelican Waters, Marcoola, Coolum, Peregian and most of the Noosa side sit on sand over a high water table. It looks solid and carries very little. The canal and lake lots at Pelican Waters, Minyama, Mooloolaba, Twin Waters and Noosa Waters add the waterfront problem: house across the full width, no usable side access, and the only way in is over the fence. The newer corridor estates have narrow carriageways, cars parked both sides, stormwater grates and service pits sitting exactly where a loaded rear axle wants to be, and fill that has not seen enough summers to settle.

Grade moves the price more than size does, and it is what decides whether a unit is sold watertight — the full rundown is on the grades page.

The range

Containers we deliver to Sunshine Coast

Priced with delivery to your address - one call, one number.

10ft Shipping Containers

Side access is pinched, the setback leaves nothing to manoeuvre in, or all that is needed is a lockable spot for the mower, an air compressor and a wall of hand tools.

20ft Shipping Containers

There is about seven metres of straight, reasonably level ground for it to sit on, and you would rather not discover in half a year that the bigger box was the answer.

40ft Shipping Containers

You have the space, the approach is genuinely open, and the aim is the largest amount of storage per dollar spent that anybody sells.

Sunshine Coast

Above the escarpment, the road picks the container

For an address at Maleny, Montville, Flaxton, Mapleton or anywhere along the top, the opening question is not what you intend to store. It is what can physically get there. Those roads were surveyed for a much smaller class of vehicle and nothing about them has grown since. The dependable option on the range is a 20ft on a tilt-tray, and it covers the great bulk of what people up there need. Where forty feet of length is genuinely the requirement, we check whether the approach will take a longer vehicle, and if it will not, two 20ft placed end to end gives you the same floor area, an easier delivery and the option of splitting them up later.

There is nothing precious about that position. A vehicle that cannot get around a bend on a range road is reversing downhill with no shoulder to work with, and a container that will not clear the gate at the top has to be taken all the way back down. Either one writes off a day. A couple of minutes on a satellite image of the driveway and gate, plus a photograph taken from your gateway looking back down the road, heads off nearly all of it. If you are on top and not sure, ring 1300 467 776 and talk us through the approach. Between us we have driven enough of those climbs to know which ones present no problem and which want a different plan.

On the ground

Canal lots and streets drawn for cars

A waterfront block at Minyama, Pelican Waters or Noosa Waters is usually a lift rather than a drop. The house occupies the width of the lot, the side gate is decorative, and the only route to the back yard goes over the roof. Crane deliveries are routine, but they need three things settled in advance: how far the boom has to reach from the nearest legal standing position, what height the container has to clear, and whether the street gives enough room for outriggers without shutting it. Photos from the gate, from the yard looking back and one straight up at the service lines answer all three.

The newer estates on the corridor bring the opposite problem. Streets at Aura, Baringa and Palmview are narrow by design, kerbside parking eats what is left, and there is often exactly one position where the truck can set up, directly in front of your block. If two cars are in it, the delivery does not happen, because there is nowhere else within reach. The nature strip and kerb crossing are dotted with water meters, comms pits and stormwater grates built to be driven over by a car, not stopped on by twenty tonne. Give the neighbours an hour's notice, clear the frontage, and tell us at the quote if there is a pit or a grate in the crossing. That one hour of preparation is the difference between a delivery and a second attempt.

Worth knowing

Sand, salt and a box that has to last twenty years

Coastal sand drains superbly and carries badly, which is a bad combination for something that puts its whole weight through four corner castings. Straight onto sand, a container settles unevenly, the frame goes slightly out of square, and the doors start binding. Concrete pads or hardwood sleepers under the four corners, levelled along the sides and checked diagonally, deal with that once and for all. Where there is any fall across the site, the doors want to be at the top of it so gravity is helping rather than hindering, and the floor wants clear air beneath it, which counts for more here than inland because the water table sits close to the surface all along the strip.

After that the upkeep is minimal and it is worth knowing what actually causes trouble. It is not the sea breeze. It is leaf litter sitting wet on a roof panel for months, and grass grown up against the bottom rail holding moisture against the steel. Run a broom over the roof twice a year, keep the base clear, and swing the doors open on a fine day occasionally to let condensation move out. That is the entire regime. Anything living outdoors permanently in salt air wants to be cargo-worthy, which is inspected wind and watertight in the yard before dispatch, and the grades page is worth reading first so the decision is an informed one rather than a price one.

What delivery to Sunshine Coast costs

Delivery is priced with the container, not separately and not off a list. One phone call gets you the real number for your address.

We will ask about the ground, the gate and the overheads before we ask about your budget. That order saves people money.

Also delivered nearby

We also deliver to Caloundra, Maroochydore, Noosa, Nambour, Maleny and the surrounding district. If your town is not on the list, ring — it almost certainly still works.

Common questions

Buying a container in Sunshine Coast

Can you get a 40ft container up to Maleny, Montville or Mapleton?

Sometimes, and it is the road that decides rather than the box. Those climbs are narrow, tightly bent, restricted in places and low in the canopy, and a long vehicle under a 40ft cannot always negotiate them safely. On the range, a 20ft on a tilt-tray is the dependable choice. Where the length genuinely matters, two 20ft end to end will usually give you more workable space, more flexibility about where they sit, and a much simpler delivery. Send the address with photographs of the gateway and the driveway and you will get a straight answer on size before anything is booked.

My Pelican Waters block has no side access. Can you still deliver?

Yes, by craning it off the road and over the house into your back yard. That is normal practice on the canal and lake estates between Golden Beach and Noosa Waters, where houses run boundary to boundary. Feasibility rests on the reach required from wherever the machine can legally sit, the height of everything under the flight path, any services strung along the frontage, and whether the roadway allows outriggers to go down. Photograph the gateway, the yard and the wires above, and the job gets answered quickly and priced once.

How long does delivery to the Sunshine Coast take?

Three to five business days is the usual window, with coastal addresses at the quicker end. Anything above the escarpment gets grouped into a range run, so those can sit an extra day or two, and steady rain will push an unsealed-driveway drop back rather than putting a truck into soft ground on your property. Where the date cannot move, because of a settlement, a site start or removalists already locked in, say so when you enquire and the run gets built around it instead of you hearing afterwards that it did not fit.

Where does a Sunshine Coast container actually come from?

Either our yard at Cornubia, south of Brisbane, or our depot at Gympie just north of the Coast, depending on what you have asked for and what is standing where. Cornubia is the one you can walk into, Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm, and the containers there sit on hardstand where you can open the doors and inspect the floor and seals yourself. Inspection at Gympie is by arrangement, so ring first. If neither trip suits, we will photograph the exact unit on request and send it through before delivery.
